John Bunyan

John Bunyan (1628–1688) started work as a tinker, but later became a preacher. As a Puritan, he was arrested for holding open-air “non-conformist” worship services and spent twelve years in Bedford jail. It was there that The Pilgrim’s Progress, among other works, was written.
